about event
ABOUT SOCOTRA

Socotra is often called the “Galápagos of the Indian Ocean” — and for good reason. It’s one of the most isolated landforms on Earth, a fragment of the ancient Gondwana supercontinent. The island lies in the Indian Ocean between the Arabian Peninsula and the Horn of Africa, around 240 km east of Somalia and 380 km south of Yemen. Together with its neighbouring islands Abd Al-Kuri, Samha, and Darsa, it forms the Socotra Archipelago, one of the most botanically diverse island groups in the world.
Socotra is home to 825 plant species, of which 308 are found nowhere else on Earth. Because of its extraordinary biodiversity, UNESCO declared the island a World Heritage Site in 2008. Its surreal landscapes — from coastal plains and limestone plateaus to the rugged Hagghier Mountains — make it feel like stepping into another world. The island’s semi-desert climate stays warm year-round, with strong monsoon winds between June and September.

Our experience in socotra

We went to Socotra two years ago and fell in love with this island. It was truly the most beautiful place we have ever been to. The locals were welcoming, and our guide and driver took great care of us.
We explored the incredible Fermhin Forest, climbed Arher Dunes, swam in Wadi Kaleesan, snorkeled among colorful fish, took a boat to a remote beach surrounded by hundreds of dolphins, explored deep caves, ate fresh food, and swam in the turquoise Arabian Sea.
At every place, we wished we could photograph models during sunrise and sunset. When the trip ended, we were amazed and also sad it was over. We promised to come back — and this time, with a group of talented photographers to capture the island’s beauty alongside our professional models styled by Ilvy.
